Ord Woman Wins $1 Million Playing Powerball
Roberta Trumbo of Ord won $1 million playing Powerball from the Nebraska Lottery.
Trumbo purchased her winning ticket at Trotter’s Whoa & Go Express IV at 1111 S 2nd St. in Ord. Trumbo’s ticket contained five plays for the April 29 drawing, one of which matched five out of five white balls (03, 19, 35, 51, 67) but not the Powerball (15) for a $1 million win.
The April 29, 2026, drawing had an astounding 62 $1 million winners across 17 different states, one of which was purchased by Trumbo. An additional 27 $2 million winning tickets were produced in 12 different states and two winners from Indiana and Kanas will split the $143.4 million jackpot. The winner of another $1 million prize purchased their ticket in Omaha but have not yet claimed their prize.
Powerball officials believe the unusually high number of winners may be due to players picking their numbers in a similar way. The winning numbers drawn on April 29 matched the same pattern as a vertical column of numbers on play slips in multiple states.
Trumbo said she’s been playing the same set of numbers for at least the past two years and originally came from a quick pick ticket and always buys her tickets for multiple drawings.
She found out she’d won on the evening of April 30 and said it left her shocked.
“I was kind of shaky getting home,” she said. “I still can’t quite believe it.”
Did you know that when you buy a Nebraska Lottery ticket, you’re helping the Nebraska State Fair?
In 2004, a constitutional amendment added the State Fair as a Lottery beneficiary and directed 10 percent of lottery proceeds to the Fair each year. A total of $84.6 million has been transferred to date.
That funding has allowed the Nebraska State Fair to continue as a premier event for all Nebraskans. Lottery funds are used for ongoing building maintenance and to expand offerings at the Fair.
These proceeds are crucial, because unlike most states, Nebraska does not own its fairgrounds. Rental income from other events throughout the year can’t be used to operate the State Fair.
Lottery proceeds helped pay for the 2015 construction of the Nebraska Building, a 4,000-square-foot climate-controlled space that houses educational exhibits and the State Fair Administrative Offices. The Fair office also serves as a Regional Lottery Claim Center where players can claim prizes up to $19,999.
“Ag education is embedded in the Nebraska State Fair mission. With tens-of-thousands of Nebraskans showcasing their talents at the event each year, the Nebraska Lottery has given us the opportunity to make a safe and comfortable event for every Nebraskan to attend while also supporting the roots of agriculture and tradition in our state,” said Jaime Parr, Executive Director of the Nebraska State Fair.
The 2026 Nebraska State Fair runs Aug. 28 - Sep. 7, 2026, in Grand Island. Visit statefair.org to plan your visit. While you’re at the Fair, make sure to look for the Nebraska Lottery trailer for prizes, fun, and your chance to support good causes across Nebraska.
